Attention 35mm adapter (imager) lusters, obsessors, enthusiasts, or interested video auteurs. Up for sale is the famous Ultimate 35mm Adapter. The 1 and only U35A!! There will only be 1, and it could be yours. I spent 6 months researching like mad, and then I figured it out and finished this invention after spending over $1500, and sleepless nights on it. I am not driven to manufacture a 35mm imaging product like other people. I'm glad they're out there, but I'm all about trying to create wacky freaky videos. In this process of finding the right buyer, I'll be incredibly honest so that when you buy this, you will be satisfied, knowing you scored a great deal, and I'll be getting some of the money back that I spent to make this thing. This adapter is bound to have a unique look of its own, unlike any other, and that is a cool thing for you.
First off, I am buying Dan Diaconu's MPIC which is about $2000. If you have $2000 to spend, I highly suggest contacting Dan. In my opinion, he has the best device out there besides maybe $10,000 P+S Technik (Brutal!).
Now I'd like to tell you all about the U35A!! The U35A is an imaging device which enables you to obtain shallow depth of field characteristics of 35mm film. It has an M42 mount for M42 lenses, and has been tested with, and works with the Canon XL2, CanonXL1, and Panasonic DVX100. This is a one of a kind device that I built, and I am not making any others.
It's made of stuff you could buy yourself and make, but it's also something that might take you months to figure out, and an obscene amount money for trial and error. It employs a high quality Beattie screen that is a gorgeous modern optical marvel and produces a sweet image. The Beattie also happens to cost $175 alone. The U35A uses an M42 lens mount so you can use very nice lenses that are arguably the cheapest out there to buy. Check eBay. But to get you started right away, I am including a very mint optic Takumar 55/1.8. You'll also get a back up that is equally as clean optically , but has been kind of banged up on the outside. I also have a Russian Zenit 50/2.8 that let's you focus within about 3 inches of the thing for mucho macro action. Then there's a 135 Samigon Telephoto lens that is very clean as well that I'll throw in. Lastly I have a bunch of macro rings that can allow you to do a bunch of wacky macro things with a normal 55mm lens. I'm also including a spanner wrench in case you need one.
So on with what you really care about.
1. Will it work with your camera? Hands-on, I can say it works with the XL2, XL1, and the DVX100. Past that, it's your risk.
2. What's the image quality like? Scroll down this page and you'll see TONS of examples. You should know one fundamental thing - this is a static imaging device. There are no moving parts which is great because it requires no moving parts to break on you, or electrical power to go dead, and it's super small for easy hand held run and gun stealth shooting. The downside is that there is static grain that you are bound to see in your footage at times. Please view all the video clips I have to determine if you are okay with this. It by no means deters from your audience getting your creative vision at all. In the end, it will be about you creating your look, and now you can.
3. I must reiterate again, you will get awesome images and footage, but you will have to contend with static grain that will be apparent to the critical eye. You will also need to be very obsessive about cleanliness and keeping dust off, and out of everything. This shouldn't be a big deal really because you already treat all your video equipment the same way. Don't you? I know you do. :)
Have a massively thorough look at images, screen grabs, and video footage to close in on your purchase decision.
For reference, if you went out and purchased the parts for this, it would run you about $500. That's all, and may the highest bidder win the "Ultimate 35mm Adapter." ;)
